Built in early 2025, Watermark Crossing is a content studio, and workshop & event facility for small-group workshops. The venue is versatile and can be set up for a variety of uses. There is a developing program of photography workshops (in both analogue and digital photography) where guest photographers (local, interstate and overseas) run occasional weekend and weekday workshops. Workshop participants and guest artists can stay over in many of the local (and next-door) B&Bs available in and around Macclesfield. The property has 2 small darkrooms for B&W film developing and printing workshops, as well as wet-plate collodion processing, and the studio will be regularly set up for Tintype Photography sessions as well as digital commercial & portrait photography by resident photographer Sam Oster. Watermark Crossing is available as an artist-in-residence studio for photo-based practitioners or other artists & writers who need a tranquil getaway to develop or produce a body of work. 

Watermark Crossing is available for hire as a workshop and event facility throughout the year.  Please contact us with your event requirements and we can create a custom package for you to accommodate your needs. We can host small groups between 6 and 15 seated, and up to 45 people for shorter standing events like launches. We are not licensed but can apply for a Class 1 liquor license for events given adequate notice.  

Located just 45 minutes drive from Adelaide’s CBD and easily accessible via Mount Barker, Echunga, Meadows and Strathalbyn, Macclesfield is popular amongst cyclists, motorcyclists, weekend wanderers and gourmets alike (just to name a few) who stop and enjoy the diversity in products, services and experiences that the town provides. “Maccy” as it is affectionately referred to by the locals, is situated amongst bush, farmland and vineyards in Battunga Country on the south-eastern slopes of the Mount Lofty Ranges, and is the source of the Angas River. Prior to the arrival of European settlers in the early 1840s, this area was inhabited by the Peramangk people who called it ‘Kangowirranilla’, a place for water and kangaroos.
